“I have primarily focused on soft pastels, using that medium in a painterly fashion, to achieve a more gestural appearance, and have started using acrylic and watercolor underpainting to create more depth. Watercolor and various types of colored pencils also play a large part in my drawing style. After spending almost 40 years in the woodworking profession, I feel fortunate I’ve been able to immerse myself into my two- dimensional work” In the studio, Joe has been developing a series of collages based on squid, using soft pastel, pencil, markers and squid eye photos, and using the squid and their ink to create monoprints. In addition to the Squid Series, Joe has created the CB Series where he takes a close up look at fried eggs. He investigated the rocky shoreline of Narragansett Bay, using the unlimited resource of rockweeds, periwinkles, acorn barnacles, and lichens as inspiration for the NB Series. Working with the belief that all fiber has a personality, I encourage the fullest expression from them. Controlling these fibers through processing, weaving, hand manipulation, and drying techniques, the individual characteristics are realized. The resulting manifestations are both personal metaphors and articulations of transformation. I am motivated by the freedom I feel in the outdoors and the exhilaration I find revealed in nature. I grew up in Indiana and loved feeling the wind in my face as I rode my bike or skated on long frozen ponds. I climbed trees to get closer to something that wasn’t below me. I had a deep haptic understanding of “language” through music which has driven me to express myself through my hands. The physicality of papermaking and handweaving techniques are both humble and rewarding and make me feel alive. View Suzi’s work and read more… |

| | “Excellence In Rockport”
Paul Murray’s Cuban image, Training for Life, was awarded the Rockport Art Association and Museum's Photography Award for Excellence in Fine Art Photography in their 2023 National Juried Exhibition, and is now owned by a Charlestown, MA-art lover. The 142-work show juried from over 600 entries is on view through November 11th at their galleries at 12 Main Street, Rockport, MA.

Five works from three 19 On Paper artists were selected for the Warwick Center for the Arts’ 37th Rhode Island Annual Open Exhibition. “Back In Havana Again!”
After well-received showings in Camaguey, Santiago de Cuba, and Havana, Paul Murray’s Riding the Wind, a 34-image photographic exhibition of 12-metre competitive yacht racing, was on display at Cuba’s prestigious National Museum of Natural History located in the Plaza de Armas in Old Havana through mid-July and early August.

Three of Cynthia DiDonato’s innovative abstract animations were chosen as part of the Patchogue Arts Council- Museum of Contemporary Art Long Island’s 2023 Long Island’s Light Projection Festival – Points of Light. In its fourth consecutive year, this six-night early October outdoor display has become a signature event for Patchogue Village on mid-Long Island’s Atlantic Coast.

Additionally, all our group activities complement and enhance the exhibiting, publishing, licensing and selling activities that we do as individual artists.
Are you interested in joining 19 on Paper?
Based on the group’s size and composition, we invite artists to be members. After an informal discussion about interests and expectations, those invited are asked to share a representative set of their paper-based work, a resume highlighting their artistic experience, and any other material that could assist with the group’s membership decision. Since we value exchange, collaboration, and continuity, consistent participation in our monthly meetings and group activities is an important membership commitment.
