Robin Beckwith
I delight in the challenge of experimental painting and find the discipline and joy of painting from nature and of working from an inner vision support one another.
Robin works in watercolor, acrylic and other water-based media, preparing surfaces in advance, considering color temperature, opacity, and other characteristics of the pigments and how they react or intermingle with one another. During the subzero days of winter, Robin pours or brushes watercolor paint onto the surface of the paper and allows it to freeze, later developing the intricate patterns ice creates into finished paintings. Currently, Robin has been making prints on synthetic or rag paper, using leaves, grasses, weeds, stones, shells, bark and other natural and found materials as resists or for making imprints. Her palette is influenced by the changing seasons, and she finds beauty in all of them.
Robin is a Signature Member of the Rhode Island Watercolor Society, the New England Watercolor Society, and the North East Watercolor Society, as well as a Juried Artist Member of the Wickford Art Association and the North Shore Arts Association in Gloucester, MA. She is an Elected Member of Art League Rhode Island, a member of the Pawtucket Arts Collaborative, and a member of the International Society of Experimental Artists.
