Victoria Guerina
I love form and light and so I make sculptures. I find light falling on forms creating shadows, defining their contours and describing their shape and character is magical.
I also love to draw and my focus is on light and form there, too. The interaction of forms and light defines an image and allow us to see something recognizable or something new that can connect us to the world and to ourselves .
Paper, as an artistic medium, is exciting to work with. It has unique qualities that speak to my imagination and inspires themes in my artwork: abstraction, the mysterious, invisible inner structures of the brain, birds, horses, sea creatures. The organic forms of the natural world are most satisfying to me at the moment. I combine drawing and sculpture in reliefs that I create in clay and cast in paper. The resulting images feel delicate and ghostlike, portraying movement, mystery and impermanence.
I’ve always loved drawing and making things, but after following other paths, I’ve returned to what I love to do. I believe all the things we experience in life create imprints that mark our present and influence our future. I’m curious about what lies ahead. What wonderful ideas, wisdom and people will provide new inspiration.
